LAGOS—SPEAKER
of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, yesterday, said whether
or not Governor Akinwunmi Ambode will be impeached depends on his (Ambode)
actions. The Speaker also debunked speculations that it was plotting to impeach
Governor Amobode. Speaking on the floor of the Assembly, Speaker, Mr. Mudashiru
Obasa, said there was no truth in the rumour.
Amobode
congratulate Osun Gov-elect, Oyetola Obasa said he received telephone calls and
enquiries from prominent people over the rumoured impeachment moves against
Ambode. According to him, the Solidarity Group of Nigeria and a faction of
All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagos State, led by Fuad Oki, has been
insinuating that lawmakers in the state are threatening Ambode to open the
state’s treasury.
The
Speaker said: “We are not embarking on any impeachment process against the
governor now. 2019: 40,000 A-Ibom traders back Gov Emmanuel for 2nd term
“Whether or not there would be an impeachment is based on his actions. “Even at
that, impeachment is constitutional. So many speakers, senate presidents,
presidents and others have been impeached all over the world. “So, nobody can
threaten us if it happens because we are representatives of the people.
We
don’t need the wailers to guide us in performing our duties. It is not out of
place for us to do our job.” Also, Majority Leader, Mr. Sanai Agunbiade, said
the procedure for impeachment did not harbour secrecy, saying the public would
know if such would happen.
