Barrister Monday Ubani, the Principal Partner of the law firm of Ubani & Co. has volunteered to represent the arrested and alleged looters of palliatives in the court of law free of cost.
He said this on the Morning Crossfire Nigeria Info FM Lagos on Wednesday. He added that he will also represent and bail those who have been unduly arrested in the name of looting palliatives warehoused by State Governors across the nation.
It was all over the news this week that State governors are threatening to arrest people and some have started arresting people accused to have looted the palliative.
Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai has also giving the people 12 hours to return the looted palliative and henceforth anyone found culpable or found with any of the palliatives would dance to the tune.
He clearly said that there will be a house-to-house search and if the palliative is found in any home, the residents would be arrested, the house will be demolished and the certificate of occupancy of the land will be revoked. This has got so many legal practitioners talking as this move is not in line with the law of our land.
Barrister Ubani in his word said the political elites in their callousness choose to hoard and allow the people to die of hunger.
These people now discovered those warehouses and collected what belongs to them and they have arrested them now to charge them to court.
So I offered free legal services because, in the first place, they deserve what is called legal representation and I want to make this very clear. Anyone that is accused of any crime at any point in time is presumed to be innocent and he deserves legal representation.
In accordance with the provisions of our constitution, its either he defends himself or he gets a legal practitioner of his choice. Now, I decided to offer legal services for free. They are supposed to be defended in the first place. It's their entitlement.
But in this particular instance, for those who actually took these things and because they were hungry. Its also important to define those that will be qualified to represent that legal representation.
1. You must have taken these palliatives because it belongs to you in the first place and
2. Because you are really hungry.

Meanwhile, some people in their opinions have also said that the fact that the politicians have done wrong by not sharing the palliatives, the solution to it is not for anyone to loot. It's criminal.
