Joe Biden – The US President-Elect Announces the key Health Team Nominees and Appointees

Joe Biden – The 46th US president-elect has announced the key health team nominees and appointees. The team will play crucial roles as the nation confronts a spike in coronavirus infections and prepares for distribution of a COVID-19 vaccine, and vowed to deliver 100 million vaccines in his first 100 days in office.

 

The announcement was made on Tuesday. Joe Biden said he needs a team that’s ready on day one to contain the pandemic and ensure everyone has access to quality, affordable health care.

He said more than 280,000 deaths were recorded and still counting due to Covid19. Biden said Covid19 is the number one cause of death in America.

He said Covid19 is the first mass casualty. Biden added that healthcare is the right of all Americans and not a privilege for a few.

“Controlling the pandemic, delivering better healthcare and reviving the economy go hand in hand”, Biden Said.

While introducing his health team, the president-elect unveiled three objectives, developed in consultation with Dr. Anthony Fauci, that he intends to complete in his first 100 days to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

"I'm absolutely convinced that in 100 days, we can change the course of the disease and change life in America for the better," the president-elect said in remarks from Wilmington, Delaware. Source.



Joe Biden plans to require the American people to wear a mask for the first 100 days in the office where he is legally able to enforce compliance, such as in federal buildings and on interstate travel on planes, trains and buses.

Moreover, he is tasking his health leaders with distributing 100 million coronavirus vaccinations to the American people in his first 100 days.

More so, he is seeking to open the majority of the country's schools.

Mr. Biden has nominated California Attorney General, Xavier Becerra to head the Department of Health and Human Services.

Dr. Vivek Murthy - current co-chairs the president-elect's coronavirus advisory board, has been appointed to serve as U.S. surgeon general.

Rochelle Walensky has also been appointed by Mr. Biden to lead the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith - co-chair of the president-elect's coronavirus advisory board was also selected as the COVID-19 Equity Task Force co-chair.

Fauci - the current director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases was appointed as the chief medical adviser on the coronavirus.

Natalie Quillian was selected as deputy coordinator of the COVID-19 response, while Jeff Zients was nominated the counselor to the president and COVID-19 response coordinator.

The health team will move into their roles and a coronavirus vaccine will be given to broader swaths of the population.

Vaccines developed by Pfizer, with Germany's BioNTech, and Moderna is awaiting emergency use authorizations from the Food and Drug Administration.

 

The first batch of vaccinations is expected to roll out to health care workers and residents of long-term care facilities once the green-light is given, likely in mid-December.
